2016

By: Tom B.

No, I’m not talking about the recent attack ad made into a movie, although it was quite interesting. I’m talking about the next presidential election in four years’ time.  Although it may seem like a long ways away, several politicians up on “the hill” don’t think so. Despite all the chaos and turmoil that was the 2012 election, several political figures have already unofficially announced their running for the presidency in 2016. Joe Biden and Hilary Clinton are among the handful of people suggesting that they will take a shot at running the country after Obama. They have told this to the media, made comments about what their political polies would be, and some have even started to create videos trying to influence the public. A big name that is getting tossed around for the republican ticket in four years is Chris Christie, the governor of New Jersey. He is seriously considering, if not formally announcing, his candidacy, and the previous election isn’t even a week old. What is this country coming to when we can’t even have a year of peace before we have new people trying to shove their campaign ads down our throats?

I personally was starting to get sick of all the emails, phone calls, and constant bombardment of Facebook stories about why we won’t live to see the day Romney gets elected, or that America physically won’t survive with another four years of President Obama. Finally, that all call to a stop at about eleven pm  on Tuesday night, but when I got up in the morning on Thursday, the first thing I see on the news is coverage of somebody running for the 2016 seat. Honestly, is this really necessary? How much time do you to inform the public before the election? Can’t wait to hear all your thoughts.

  1. I personally do think it's too soon to start thinking about 2016. We need to focus on issues that we have in front of us right now, like the looming fiscal cliff. If we don't try to solve the problems we have now, our country will become even worse than it already is. And if that happens, then the country will be in such a bad shape that no one will be able to fix it. We need to go day by day. Not election by election.

  2. Why would the Country already be talking about who is running for the 2016 President when our current President hasn’t even been President for even a month yet? It is for sure way to soon to start talking about the 2016 parties running because the 2012 election just got over with and people were sick of listening to the 2012 election campaign so why would they go out and say who will be running in the 2016 election? That’s 4 years away and anything can happen in that time. Maybe the person will end up dying and all the time they’ve wasted on the news talking about that person will be time wasted. I think that it would be okay to say who will be running for the 2016 election in 2014 because its two years away and it will get that person more known for running for office. But then in 2015, they can start talking more about the election but they shouldn’t get crazy until 6 months before Election Day. Person I think it’s crazy to already be stated who will run for office in the next 4 years. We need to focus on right now otherwise we won’t have another 4 years, we shouldn’t be worried about the future President when in reality people need to be focused on Barack Obama and his last 4 years first.

  3. That's the media for you. They report on just about everything except the things that are important. It's all about: celebrities, sports, and what ever they think will scare people, or in this case things that aren't relevant; like Marissa said the guy could be dead in the next four years. But we've just gotta know that he's thinking about running for office before our current president even starts his second term.
