Romney Rally at Wisconsin Fairgrounds

By: Brandee H.

I had to think really hard about what to write about for this blog post because nothing really seemed all that interesting to me. I then remembered about this very recent visit from Mitt Romney at the Wisconsin State Fairgrounds. This topic caught my attention because I really wanted to go see him on Friday, but I wasn’t able to. Fortunately, my mom went and I got to hear all about it from her. Later in this blog post, I will post a video of Romney’s speech from that day and ask what you think about it.
Mitt Romney was scheduled to come to Wisconsin’s state fair grounds on Monday, October 29th, but couldn’t make it because of the hurricane on the East coast. When I heard about the news I was upset because I wanted to hear about Romney’s last rally in Wisconsin before the election, and I was bummed because I know so many people were excited to see him in Milwaukee. I didn’t think that he’d have time to reschedule with the election being so close and all, but he did! He was in Wisconsin that same week on Friday, November 2nd for the rescheduled rally.
Even though it was freezing out on Friday, thousands of people went to support Romney, and according to an article called Wisconsin Women Overflow Romney Rally, “over 1500 people who could not get in attended the “overflow rally” outside of the event.” The article says that it’s positive in Romney’s favor that he could win Wisconsin over. Many people that attended this event said that because of the failed recall of Republican Governor Scott Walker, people have more confidence that the Republicans can win the election. They also implied that if Obama thought that he won Wisconsin over, he wouldn’t be coming back to Wisconsin on Monday, the day before the Election so many think that Obama is getting nervous about Wisconsin’s votes.

There is a video of interviews at the Romney Rally, underneath the article at this website:

Romney talked about his plan at the rally on Friday, to create real change from day one and it seems that Obama’s plan is no different than the plan he has had for the last four years and that disappoints many people. He quotes, “change cannot be measured in speeches; it is measured in achievements. Four years ago, candidate Obama promised to do so very much, but he has fallen so very short”, he said, “I promise change, and I have a record of achieving it”. Romney talked a lot about jobs and the economy. He’s planning on creating 12 million new jobs, and that is what America needs. Many people responded very well to what he wants to do with the economy. The highlight of the event and a very exciting moment for many was a surprise appearance from a former Green Bay Packer quarter back, Bart Starr, who quoted Vince Lombardi, and talked about integrity. He states, “We’ll be electing a truly, truly special gentleman” if Romney gets elected president of the United States.

Another interesting thing about that day at the rally was that it was Scott Walker’s 45th birthday, and the whole crowd sang “Happy Birthday” to him. An article called, Walker’s Birthday Wish: For Wis. To elect Romney, states that Walker only “has one wish for his 45th birthday – for Wisconsin to help elect Mitt Romney the nation’s 45th president”. I thought it was very ironic that Scott Walker turned 45, Romney would be the 45th president, and Walker is the 45th governor of Wisconsin.
I feel that Romney had a very successful rally and am looking very forward to the results of the 2012 election.
