Should we be over seas?

Tyler Kelly

Today there are several complications and countries that we worry about. Nukes, missiles, militia, rebels, and terrorists the list goes on for threats. So as a safety net we send over troops either on their territory with their compliance or near the country in the ocean or in a neighboring country. We stand ready for the unexpected and it’s better to be prepared than not be prepared at all. If we were to be attacked by a foreign country and we were not ready for it at all then we run that risk of falling on our heels and going into a full on war that we aren’t ready for. There are several reasons why we conflict with other countries in the world today. I believe we should be overseas.

As a country we are strong but as a world we are weak. We conflict with each other about almost everything because of how strong of a opinion we all have. Religion has been the leading reason for most of our conflicts along with what people think of us and other countries as a whole. As said in wikianswers.com by Ganderton “There is resentment in Middle Eastern countries due to their views of America as a bullying and hypocritical country who invaded parts of the Middle East for oil.” Everyone has their opinion and some of those with a very strong opinion go so far as to demonstrate their anger with others by retaliating with violence. 9/11, anthrax attack, Pearl Harbor are just a few examples of people retaliating with anger and violence. It’s clear what we should be overseas.

We should stay overseas in the Middle East for several reasons. With all our conflicts overseas it’s hard to manage everything that goes on. As mentioned by Meghan O’Sullivan on washingtonpost.com “But it is equally or even more conceivable that, with relatively small amounts of continued U.S. support, the greatest strategic benefits of the Iraq intervention will materialize in the next several years.” What she is implying is if we stay there the country will become more stable and we won’t have to, along with other worried countries, about being attack by terrorists or militia. If we leave we run the risk of losing control and being attacked. It isn’t wise to run such a risk when good can come from helping those in need. Iraq doesn’t want terrorist and we don’t either so we both work together in order to create balance.

Today there are changes to the way things work in the Middle East. Libya, after losing their president after a revolt, had their first democratic election in over five decades on July 7th, 2012 (mid-east-today.blogspot.com). It has also been over 16 months since the start of the Syrian uprising and over 16,000 people have been killed from the uprising (mid-east-today.blogspot.com). All these changes show what our future holds for us. Some good and some bad. We can help change the future but it’s important that we don’t interfere too much with countries so they maintain their independence. After we help the countries get back on their feet then I believe we should leave but as of right now the Middle East still needs support.

Those that say that we should leave are mostly people that have never been overseas to see what’s going on or they are totally unaware of the danger of leaving. Although there is still a danger in staying there is an even bigger danger of leaving. Those that say we should stay in the Middle East are mostly those that have been overseas and fully understand the situation that is underway. Military service can see with their own eyes the high risk is. Its plan and simple, if we leave we will be attacked for sure and we will be blamed because we left and if we stay the chance of being attacked is extremely smaller, which is why I think we should stay overseas.
